On February 24th, 2026, The CPSC issued a safety alert regarding around 43,500 pressure cookers sold under the Gourmia brand name, due to the risk of this product causing serious burn injuries.

These pressure cookers were sold at Best Buy and other retailers, including online, between 2017 and 2020 for between $50 and $80. The model number is GPC625. The importer, the Steelstone Group, LLC (doing business as Gourmia), and Best Buy, where a majority of these products were sold, have declined to agree to an acceptable recall to address this hazard at this time.
Just because a product hasn’t been recalled does not always mean that it is safe and functioning as intended. Sometimes, companies refuse to issue a reasonable recall of their product, leaving malfunctioning devices or unsafe foods in the hands of unsuspecting consumers, who suffer injuries as a result.
At Ankin Law, we take unreasonably unsafe products seriously. Our experienced product liability attorneys have the skill and resources to strengthen your claim and hold big name companies like Best Buy and Gourmia liable for their action, or lack of action.
Why Are the Gourmia Pressure Cookers Dangerous?
The Gourmia pressure cookers are dangerous due to various factors:
- The lid can still be opened while the pot is pressurized
- The pressure cooker’s float valve, designed to indicate when the pot is pressurized, is in the handle, making it harder to see
- The inner pot of these pressure cookers has incorrect volume markings, raising the risk of overfilling, which could lead to liquid being ejected while the pot is vented
To date, these issues have led to five reports of incidents where hot water was expelled from these pots, with severe burn injuries reported in four of these cases. There have been at least two lawsuits regarding burn injuries so far.
The Rising Epidemic of Unsafe Pressure Cookers
The Gourmia pressure cooker isn’t the only instance of unsafe pressure cookers. Just last year, the SharkNinja Foodi Multi-Cooker and Ambiano Electric pressure cooker units were recalled due to similar issues with the lids being able to be opened during the product’s pressurized state.
This continuing problem highlights negligence on a manufacturing level. A design flaw this serious should have been noticed and addressed before the products ever hit store shelves. Yet, these products are still sold and used on a daily basis by consumers all over the world.
Other notable pressure cooker recalls include the Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers (2023-2024), and Sensio, including their Bella, Bella Pro Series, Crux, and Cooks electric/stovetop pressure cookers (2023).
What Types of Injuries Can a Pressure Cooker Cause?
Pressure cookers can cause a wide range of injuries, including:
- 1st and 3rd degree burns: When a pressure cooker lid is able to be opened before the cooker is depressurized, it can cause boiling hot food and liquid to spray out. Contact with this can lead to severe burns.
- Lacerations: Lacerations can be caused by fragments of the malfunctioning pressure cooker
- Blindness/Eye Injury: Can be caused by flying debris or hot, pressurized food hitting the face.
- Fractures: The force of a pressure cooker explosion can lead to blunt force trauma, which could lead to fractures or other serious injuries.
- Electrocution: Faulty electrical components can lead to electrical shock and injury.
Injuries such as these often stem from improper manufacturing or design defects that lead to dangerous situations, even when used correctly.
How Much Is a Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Worth?
While every case is unique, and it is difficult to determine the actual worth of your liability claim, estimates indicate that pressure cooker lawsuits can range from anywhere between $25,000 to over $2,000,000. Factors such as the severity of your injury, the losses you incurred due to your injury, and whether or not punitive damages are awarded can influence the final financial worth of your case. A product liability attorney can assess your situation and help you determine an accurate estimate of how much you can expect from your settlement.
