According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash scene near Route 59 and Diemer Street around 8:30 p.m. There, they found an unconscious and unresponsive woman on the road near a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was hospitalized with critical, life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the motorcycle driver, a 51-year-old man, told deputies he was heading south on Route 59 and swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle that turned in front of him. He did not suffer significant injuries.

Deputies say a 33-year-old Antioch woman told them she was heading north on Route 59 in her GMC Acadia when she was sideswiped by the motorcycle, which was heading south. She said the man swerved into her lane. He is now facing charges in connection with the incident after officers suspected alcohol impairment. However, the authorities are handling the inquiry into the collision and asked any witnesses to come forward.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured woman and her loved ones.

Motor Vehicle Accidents in Illinois

Major crashes, including those involving pedestrians, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and beyond, are all too common across Chicagoland. While you can do nothing to stop others from driving negligently, you can seek compensation if you get injured. Your actions in the immediate aftermath of a car accident can significantly impact the outcome of your claim, so it is best to seek legal representation as soon as possible. For instance, by preserving evidence and seeking medical attention promptly, you can show the necessary documentation to establish liability and the extent of your injuries.

With legal representation, members of the family who meet the eligibility criteria can pursue civil litigation to recover damages after their loved one’s death. Such damages from litigation may include but are not limited to, funeral costs, pain and suffering endured before the decedent’s death, loss of companionship, and more. Courts may even award punitive damages in instances of extreme negligence, such as driving under the influence of alcohol.
