Tampico, IL (March 12, 2026) – Four students were hurt after a school bus accident on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, in Tampico that left the vehicle off the roadway and in a ditch. Authorities stated that the crash occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m., following reports of a possible bus accident in the area. Emergency units responded and later located the bus near Tampico Elementary School.

Investigators stated that the bus had veered off the road before coming to rest in a ditch. Officials confirmed that several students were on board at the time of the incident.
Four students were taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Officials later reported that the injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening, and the students were released after being checked by doctors.
The driver was identified as 40-year-old Timothy J. Spurlock of Rock Falls. Authorities issued a citation for improper lane usage and released him pending a required court appearance.
