SharkNinja Pressure Cooker Lids Recalled Over Burn Risk

May 5th, 2025 (Chicago, IL) – When products hit the store shelves, it’s generally assumed that they’re safe to use. Manufacturers owe customers a duty of care, and we hold them to the expectation that the products they provide us with are hazard free. This isn’t always the case, however, as made apparent by the recent pressure cooker lid recall initiated by SharkNinja on May 1st, 2025.

The SharkNinja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cooker lids have been recalled nationwide for a flaw in its design that allows the lid to be opened during pressure-cooking. This is a serious hazard, as the hot contents of the pot can escape and cause serious burns. So far, around 1,846,400 units have been recalled in the U.S.A. due to this error in design.

As of May 1, 2025, there have been at least 106 reports of burn injuries, including more than 50 reports of second or third degree burns, with 26 lawsuits currently filed.

What Should I Do as a Consumer With a Recalled Pressure Cooker?

If you have a product affected by the pressure cooker recall, cease use of the pressure-cooking function immediately. You should then contact SharkNinja for a replacement pressure cooker lid. According to the CPSC, you can still use the air frying function and other functions of the product while you wait for your replacement lid.

You can contact SharkNinja for a replacement lid toll-free at 888-370-1733 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Saturday. Additionally, you can e-mail them at sharkninja@rqa-inc.com, or contact them through their website.

You do not need to send your pressure cooker back. Simply fill out the recall form to register with the recall, and SharkNinja will send you a new lid free of charge.

What Do I Do With the Pressure-Cooking Lid?

You should throw away the recalled pressure cooker lid in accordance with local regulations once you have registered with the recall. Once you receive your new lid, you can simply attach it to your pressure cooker any time you want to use the pressure-cooking function.

Why Are Some Pressure Cookers Dangerous?

Pressure cookers can reach around 266°F (130°C) which is significantly hotter than the maximum heat in a typical saucepan. Pressure cookers can also reach 12-15psi. As such, opening a pressure cooker lid while the cooker is under pressure is very dangerous. If opened prematurely, the contents inside of the pressure cooker can explode outward. If the hot contents of the pressure cooker come into contact with skin, it can cause severe burns, which may require hospitalization. In addition to the risk of hot contents exploding, you could also receive steam burns when steam is released prematurely.

Modern Pressure cookers typically have safety locks to prevent the lid from opening during pressurization.

How Much Is a Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Worth?

The worth of a pressure cooker lawsuit varies based on certain factors that are taken into account while building your case. Factors such as the severity of injuries, the company’s willingness to settle, and the cost of your medical treatment will help determine the amount awarded to you.
