The deadly crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. in the 1700 block of Mannheim Road. Investigators said a 48-year-old man driving a 2022 USPS Mercedes-Benz truck was heading south when he veered across the center line and slammed into a northbound 2005 Chrysler Sebring.

Emergency crews arrived quickly and provided aid to both drivers. Paramedics rushed them to a nearby hospital, but the Chrysler driver, identified as Laurie Jensen, succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. The USPS driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and cited for improper lane usage.

Authorities said the postal driver told investigators he momentarily lost control of his truck before the collision. The Des Plaines Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking crash and is reviewing all evidence to determine what caused it.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Laurie Jensen during this difficult time.

Fatal Head-On Collisions in Illinois

Head-on collisions are among the most devastating crashes on Illinois roads. When two vehicles strike each other front-to-front, the combined impact force often leads to severe or fatal injuries. These crashes can happen in an instant when a driver becomes distracted, drifts out of their lane, or loses control of the vehicle.

According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation, hundreds of head-on crashes result in fatalities each year. Victims often suffer catastrophic injuries, including brain trauma, spinal cord damage, internal bleeding, and multiple fractures. Beyond the physical toll, surviving families are left grieving and struggling with the emotional and financial aftermath of their loss.

When a fatal crash happens due to another driver’s negligence, families may be entitled to compensation through a wrongful death claim. Damages can include funeral expenses, medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering. However, insurance companies often attempt to limit payouts, which makes having an experienced attorney critical to securing full and fair recovery.

A brave wrongful death lawyer can investigate the crash, negotiate with insurers, and fight to ensure families receive the justice they deserve.
