July is Medical Malpractice Awareness Month, and there is one thing on the mind of Ankin Law’s medical malpractice attorney.
That’s the trend of several clinics, emergency rooms and hospital chains in Chicagoland that are being bought up by private equity firms and for-profit companies. Attorney Jeff Schulkin has noticed this, and it’s something he’s concerned about.
It means that success may be measured by profits for the health care institutions instead of the results for patients.
“When healthcare providers are forced to operate like assembly line workers, mistakes happen,” said Schulkin. “Health care works best when decisions are made by doctors, not by algorithms.”
