Ankin Law Files Federal Lawsuit Against VA Hospital After Veteran Left Permanently Disabled

Chicago, IL — Ankin Law has filed a federal lawsuit against Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital after its failure to diagnose and treat a bacterial infection left Army veteran Anthony W., 49, permanently disabled.

Anthony, a father of six and small business owner, developed an infection that went untreated for weeks. The delay led to sepsis, heart failure requiring surgery, and a series of strokes. Once a provider for his family, he can no longer work or drive. His wife now serves as his full-time caregiver.

“This tragedy was preventable,” said Howard Ankin of Ankin Law. “The VA had every opportunity to step in. They didn’t. Now a veteran who gave everything for his country has lost his health, his livelihood, and his independence.”

Ankin Law filed the lawsuit accusing the VA of negligence after pursuing all other forms of redress, to give Anthony and his family a voice after theirs was ignored.

The case has drawn wide attention. ABC7, NBC5, and Fox32 covered the press conference on September 10. The Chicago Tribune ran the story on its front page September 9.
