Ready-to-Eat Meat & Poultry Recalled Due to Misbranding

July 16th, 2025 (Chicago, IL) – Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. has issued a recall of approximately 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat meat & poultry products due to misbranding. The various bologna products contain chicken, pork, and beef products not listed in the product labels.

This error is particularly dangerous for individuals who have certain dietary restrictions, whether said restrictions are due to religious/cultural beliefs or health reasons. Consuming food products you do not typically consume can lead to digestive upset, and if allergies or other health issues are present, could lead to serious adverse reactions. People with these dietary restrictions should avoid eating any products relating to the recall at this time.

What Products Are Affected by The Recall?

These ready-to-eat bologna products were produced between March 30th, 2025, and June 20th, 2025. These products were distributed to wholesale and retail locations nationwide and have lot establishment number EST. 5385 inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product label.

If you have any of the following products in your fridge, it is important that you check them to see if they are affected by the recall:

  • Family Tree Bologna Veal:  These vacuum packed packages contain undeclared pork.
  • Babushka’s Recipe Chicken Bologna: These plastic wrapped packages contain undeclared pork.
  • Fancy Bologna: These plastic wrapped packages are labeled as pork, but contain undeclared beef and chicken.
  • Gaiser’s Russian Brand Doktorskaya Bologna: These vacuum sealed packages contain undeclared beef.
  • Gaiser’s Bologna Veal: These plastic wrapped packages contain undeclared chicken and pork.
  • Gaiser’s Turkey Bologna: These plastic wrapped packages contain undeclared chicken and pork.
  • Chicken Bologna Kypoyka Paba: These plastic wrapped packages contain undeclared pork.

Why Proper Labeling Is Important

Ensuring that food products are properly labeled is essential in protecting the health and wellness of consumers. Product labeling can be the difference between life or death for some individuals with health issues or food allergies. When companies fail to properly label their products, it puts these consumers at risk of having adverse health reactions that could lead to serious injury or death.

Additionally, some people have moral or religious objections to consuming certain types of foods, and they willfully abstain from consumption of these products. In some cases, when a person does not consume a food for a long time and is suddenly exposed to it, consumption can lead to digestive problems like diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach cramps.

Regardless of whether an individual has health issues or moral/religious objections that prevent them from consuming certain products, it is still important to know exactly what you’re consuming.

Failing to properly label food products renders them unreasonably dangerous. Manufacturers have a legal duty to clearly disclose all ingredients on the products they put on the market.

What Should Consumers Do With the Mislabeled Foods?

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) advises that consumers with these products in their fridge or freezer should avoid consuming them. They should throw the food away or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. It is not recommended to feed the mislabeled foods to your pets or other people.
