April 15th, 2025 (Chicago, IL) – Popular online retailer AliExpress is recalling three brands of hair dryers due to safety concerns involving electrocution and shock hazards. These products, each sold on the company’s website, pose significant hazards to consumers due to a lack of basic safety features. The hair dryers, which do not have required immersion protection devices, are considered in violation of federal safety regulations.

The recall follows a January 2025 recall of other hairdryer products sold by AliExpress. The previous recall was issued because those hair dryers also lacked the required immersion protection devices.

There are currently three hair dryer products affected by the AliExpress hair dryer recall. These products were all recalled on April 3rd, 2025. The hair dryers were all different brands, but all lacked the same basic safety feature required by federal regulations. Each product is missing an immersion protection device. Due to this, these products can cause serious injury or death due to electrocution.

What Do I Do With My Recalled Hair Dryer?
Currently, AliExpress is contacting all known purchasers of these hair dryers directly with instructions about what to do with their recalled hair dryers and how to obtain a refund. If you did not receive an email from the manufacturer, you can still contact the company for your refund, however.
According to the CPSC, consumers should cease use of these products immediately and destroy them by cutting the cord on the hair dryers. Consumers should then send a picture of the destroyed hair dryer to us_product_recall@aliexpress.com or by replying to the recall email sent by AliExpress to receive a full refund.
For your safety and the safety of your loved ones, it is important that you stop using these products and disable them immediately.
Why Are The Recalled Hair Dryers Dangerous?
The three hair dryers recalled by AliExpress are dangerous due to a lack of an immersion protection device. This safety feature is designed to limit the risk of electrical shock, should the hair dryer fall into water. These devices work by detecting an electrical leak, like what is generated when electrical products come into contact with water, and immediately cutting power to the device so it can be safely unplugged and removed from the water.
Since the hair dryers are primarily used around sinks and other water sources in the bathroom, this feature is especially important for consumer safety. Without this safety feature in play, consumers can get electrocuted if the product is dropped into water, and they try to handle the product.
What Does an Immersion Protection Device Look Like?
On a hair dryer, an immersion protection device typically looks like a large block-shaped plug on the cord of the hair dryer. Many of these devices have buttons on them that vary in color depending on the product.
Inside this block-shaped plug is a circuit interrupter, typically a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) or other similar device.
Many countries, the U.S. included, require handheld hair dryers to have an immersion protection device for safety. Products that do not have this feature are in violation of these safety requirements.
