Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Illinois
Pedestrian accidents are a serious concern, especially in suburban areas like Wheeling, where both traffic and foot traffic can be heavy.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 7,000 pedestrians were killed in traffic-related accidents in the United States in 2021. Pedestrians are at a higher risk when crossing busy streets or walking along roads without sidewalks, and their injuries can range from minor to catastrophic.
In Wheeling, like many other communities, the risk to pedestrians increases as the population grows, and road conditions and traffic patterns evolve. In many cases, drivers may not see pedestrians until it’s too late, leading to tragic accidents.
Whether it’s due to distracted driving, speeding, or simply not being aware of pedestrians, these accidents often have life-altering consequences.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a pedestrian accident, it’s essential to understand your legal rights. Pedestrian accidents can result in serious injuries such as broken bones, spinal injuries, or even brain injuries. If the accident was caused by negligence, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other expenses.
If the tragic accident leads to the loss of a loved one, it’s important to consult with a wrongful death lawyer to understand your legal options. Losing someone due to the negligence or recklessness of another driver is devastating, and families often face financial challenges in addition to their emotional pain.
