Urbana, IL (October 18, 2024) – An Illinois State Police (ISP) trooper has died following a crash in Champaign County on Friday, October 18.

On Friday night, 28-year-old ISP Trooper Corey S. Thompsen was killed in an area accident. ISP said that the crash happened on Friday around 3:40 p.m. on East Leverett Road at County Road 1300E. Thompsen was hit in the crash and taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The details of the crash are still being investigated, and the cause of the collision is under inquiry. In the interim, officers continued to talk to witnesses with additional information about the cause of the accident.
