Unichem Pharmaceuticals Issues Nationwide Recall of Cyclobenzaprine Due to Dangerous Labeling Error

August 28th, 2025 (Chicago, IL) –  Unichem Pharmaceuticals has issued a nationwide recall of one lot of Cyclobenzaprine due to a dangerous labeling error that could put the wrong medication into consumers’ hands.

When we go to the pharmacy, we expect the medications we receive to be correct. However, despite the pharmacist’s best efforts to ensure they give you the correct medication, labeling errors can be easily missed, and the wrong medication could end up in an unsuspecting consumer’s hands. Sometimes, medications look similar enough that consumers may not realize the medication they received was the wrong one.

In the case of the Cyclobenzaprine 10 mg labeling error, the medication’s label was somehow put on bottles of Meloxicam 7.5 mg tablets. To date, there have been no reported adverse reactions or deaths due to this egregious mistake.

Why Is This Labeling Error Dangerous?

When you take a medication, and it turns out that it wasn’t the medication intended for your treatment plan, it can lead to serious and in some cases, deadly, reactions. This is especially true if you have any allergies to particular drugs, or you rely on the medication you are taking to keep you alive. Unknowingly taking Meloxicam can lead to serious side effects, including:

  • Cardiovascular issues
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Renal issues
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Skin reactions

Additionally, some types of medications react with others, often leading to serious adverse reactions. You are at a higher risk of suffering side effects if you are on blood thinners, other NSAIDs, are allergic to Meloxicam, or suffer from underlying conditions.

What Is Meloxicam?

Meloxicam is a Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAID) used in treating various types of arthritis. It is designed to relieve symptoms surrounding this illness such as swelling, Inflammation, stiffness, and joint pain.

Several side effects are associated with Meloxicam, and usage should be monitored by a licensed medical professional.

What Cyclobenzaprine Lot Is Affected By the Unichem Recall?

Only one lot of Cyclobenzaprine has been recalled because of the labeling error to date. Affected bottles can be identified by lot number GMML24026A, and an expiry date of Sept. 2027. NDC 29300-415-19 is also printed on these 90ct bottles of Cyclobenzaprine.

The products were distributed nationwide.

What Is Unichem Doing About The Cyclobenzaprine Recall?

Unichem is voluntarily recalling the medication, and notifying its trading partners, retailers, and consumers through their third party recall provider, Inmar. The return process of all affected mislabeled Cyclobenzaprine 90ct bottles is being handled by Inmar. Additionally, Unichem is asking that retailers do not dispense medication from bottles with the aforementioned lot number, and they should notify any consumers who have received medications from one of these bottles.

What Should Consumers Do?

If you have any medications dispensed from these recalled bottles, it is important that you stop taking it immediately. Take the bottle and pills to the pharmacy you got them from and trade them in for your proper medication. Do not throw these pills away. While not necessarily illegal, it is unsafe to dispose of pills in the trash or flush them down the toilet. This can pose a risk to children, pets, and other people who may come into contact with the medication.

Can I Sue if I Was Injured By a Mislabeled Medication?

If you were injured due to a medication labeling error, and you suffered quantifiable losses as a result, you may be eligible to recover compensation in a product liability lawsuit. You may be eligible to recover:

Economic Damages (lost wages, medical bills, lost earning capacity)

Non-Economic Damages (PTSD, emotional suffering, pain, loss of enjoyment of life).

In some cases, if the defendant was found to be especially negligent in their actions, you may be entitled to punitive damages as well, though these damages are not awarded as often as the other two.

The damages you can claim after taking a mislabeled medication varies on a case by case basis, and is influenced by the specific losses you endure. An attorney can help you gather the evidence necessary for your claim, making sure you receive full compensation for all your losses.
