What Can Injured Passengers and Drivers Claim After a Crash in Chicago, IL?

After a two-vehicle crash in Chicago, both drivers and passengers may have legal options depending on how the collision occurred. Illinois follows a fault-based system, which means the party responsible for causing the wreck can be held liable for resulting harm. If fault is shared, Illinois law allows an injured person to recover damages as long as they are not more than 50% responsible.

Interstate 94, known as the Dan Ryan Expressway, is one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the state. High-speed merges, early morning commuter traffic, and stretches near the 87th Street and 95th Street interchanges contribute to dangerous driving conditions.

People hurt in expressway crashes frequently face injuries that aren’t immediately obvious. Whiplash, spinal strain, and internal trauma may not be fully felt until hours after the accident.

After an injury crash, medical costs, lost wages, and long-term care can add up quickly. However, based on how the crash unfolded and how fault is determined, injured occupants may be able to recover the damages produced by a car accident. A Chicago car accident attorney can review the details of your situation and explain what options may be available to you.
