Tazewell County, IL (December 18, 2024) – On Tuesday, Illinois State Police released more details about a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 155 near Hopedale over the weekend that left one of the drivers hospitalized.

Five vehicles, including a semi-truck, were involved in the crash that happened around noon in the southbound lanes, about a mile north of the Hopedale exit. Police said one of the vehicles was traveling northbound, and for unknown reasons, the driver lost control and went into the southbound lanes striking two vehicles. Debris from the crash damaged two other vehicles, according to police.
A witness reported a damaged car blocking both lanes of traffic, a sport utility vehicle in a nearby ditch, and a third vehicle with severe damage to the driver’s side. State Police said at least one injured driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police have not said if they’ve issued any tickets for the crash, but an investigation is ongoing.
