Peoria, IL (July 23, 2025) – A Kewanee man was killed Sunday night after being hit by a vehicle driven by a teenager.

Matthew P. Manthe, 51, died at OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after he was hit by a vehicle in Kewanee that was driven by a 17-year-old near OSF HealthCare St. Luke Medical Center.
According to the Kewanee Police Department, officers responded to the 1000 block of West South Street at 10:11 p.m. Sunday night in response to a vehicle-pedestrian accident. When police arrived, they began life-saving measures on Manthe, with help by emergency medical staff from the Kewanee Fire Department.
Manthe was eventually transported to St. Luke before he was flown to OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center for further treatment. In Peoria, he eventually died from his injuries. The teenager was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Police are continuing their investigation into the crash, with the Peoria County Coroner’s Office assisting in determining how Manthe died.
No further information was immediately available about the cause of the incident, but the investigation is ongoing at this time.
