How Long Do Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Claim in Mount Prospect, IL?
In Illinois, a wrongful death lawsuit generally must be filed within two years of a person’s death. If that deadline passes, surviving family members may lose the opportunity to pursue compensation through the courts. Because exceptions can apply in certain situations, families commonly benefit from learning about their legal options as soon as possible after a fatal collision
A fatal motorcycle collision can leave families facing emotional and financial hardships. Medical expenses incurred before death, funeral costs, and the loss of future income or support can create significant challenges in the months and years that follow.
A wrongful death attorney can review the facts of a case, explain how Illinois wrongful death laws apply, and determine whether additional deadlines or notice requirements may affect a claim. Legal guidance can also help identify available insurance coverage and clarify what forms of compensation may be available under the law.
