McHenry Township, IL (March 24, 2026) – Two people were injured after a house fire broke out Tuesday afternoon, March 24, at a single-family residence in McHenry Township. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Chapel Hill Road.

Emergency units responded after reports of flames coming from the front window of the home. Four occupants were inside the residence at the time, but all managed to exit safely before the crews arrived.

Firefighters quickly began attacking the fire and searched the house to ensure no one remained inside. The blaze was brought under control in under ten minutes, although the living room and kitchen sustained the most severe fire damage.

Officials said smoke and water also caused significant damage throughout the house. The residence has been deemed uninhabitable following the incident.

Two residents were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening. No firefighters were injured during the emergency response.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

We hope those injured recover quickly as they receive treatment following the incident.

How Do Insurance Claims Work After a Residential Fire in Illinois?

Insurance claims after a residential fire in Illinois usually begin when the homeowner contacts their insurance provider and reports the damage. The insurer typically reviews the policy, investigates the incident, and evaluates repair costs to determine what coverage may apply.

Homeowners’ insurance policies often cover several types of fire-related losses. These may include structural damage to the house, repairs to affected areas, and the replacement of personal belongings damaged by fire, smoke, or water. Some policies may also help with temporary living expenses if the home becomes unsafe to occupy.

The claims process often involves documentation and inspection. Insurance adjusters may visit the property to evaluate the damage, take photos, and estimate repair costs. Keeping records such as photographs, repair estimates, receipts, and inventory lists of damaged items can help clarify what losses occurred after the accident.

Fire incidents can also create financial questions related to medical treatment, property repairs, and insurance coverage. A personal injury lawyer can review documents, explain how insurance policies may apply, and discuss whether compensation could be available depending on the situation. Legal guidance can also help people understand paperwork, communication with insurers, and available options following a serious fire.
