Manhattan, IL (September 4, 2024) – Manhattan Fire Protection District officials said a driver involved in a rollover crash on Wednesday afternoon, September 4, in Manhattan, was airlifted from the scene.
The accident happened around 2:15 p.m. on Route 52 and Scheer Road, Manhattan Fire Protection District Chief Steve Malone said. A medical helicopter was called to transport the driver, described only as an adult female, to a Level 1 trauma center, Malone said.
Malone added that the extent of the driver’s injuries was not known. Illinois State Police were initially called to the report of a two-car crash, and troopers say the incident is now under investigation as a possible hit-and-run, with no identifying information on a second car available. However, officers are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the collision and asked any witnesses to come forward. No further details have been provided in the interim.
