Joliet, IL (May 24, 2024) – According to officers with the Joliet Police Department, a city of Joliet vehicle struck a 75-year-old pedestrian earlier this week, resulting in his death.
On Wednesday, shortly after 11:00 a.m., police were called to the intersection of East Cass Street and Herkimer Street after fielding reports of a driver striking a person. Per authorities, a 54-year-old Elwood resident who works for the city of Joliet Utilities was traveling south on Herkimer in a city-owned Ford F350 pickup truck when he made a left turn into westbound Cass. At that time, he hit a 75-year-old man who was in the crosswalk heading north.
Joliet fire personnel transported the victim to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, where he passed away from his injuries on Thursday afternoon. The truck driver was unharmed in the crash. While police continue their investigation, anybody with information or surveillance footage of the collision is requested to get in touch with the Traffic Unit. No further details were released in the interim.
