Joliet, IL – Man Dies in Four-Car Crash on W Jefferson St at Airport Dr

Joliet, IL (June 22, 2024) – A 72-year-old Lombard man died Wednesday evening after a four-car crash on West Jefferson Street near the Joliet Municipal Airport. According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, officers responded to West Jefferson Street and Airport Drive for a multi-vehicle traffic crash with injuries just after 6:30 p.m.

The preliminary investigation suggests a Ford Ranger truck driven by an unidentified man was heading west on West Jefferson when it hit the rear passenger side of a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 44-year-old woman from Shorewood. The man’s Ford truck also struck the rear driver’s side of a Tesla 3 driven by a 38-year-old Naperville man, who was also heading west on West Jefferson Street in the curb lane, according to police.

Joliet paramedics took one of the drivers to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center, where they died. No other serious injuries were reported, though the roadway was closed for several hours as Joliet police officers reconstructed the crash. Further details were not immediately available, but an investigation is ongoing.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s loved ones. Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their family members.
