Do I Need a Lawyer After a Semi-Truck Crash in Illinois?

In Illinois, speaking with a lawyer after a semi-truck crash can be helpful, especially when serious injuries are involved. Truck accident cases often include commercial insurance policies, company records, and state or federal safety regulations. Because of these added layers, legal guidance can help clarify what steps may apply under Illinois law.

Illinois follows a modified comparative fault rule. This means a person can seek compensation if they are less than 51% responsible for the collision. The state also generally allows two years from the date of the accident to file a personal injury claim, though certain exceptions may apply. These timelines and fault rules can affect how a case moves forward.

Semi-truck crashes frequently cause severe injuries due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles. People may face traumatic brain injuries, fractures, internal injuries, or long-term back problems. Medical evaluations, follow-up visits, and organized records play an important role in linking injuries to the crash and documenting recovery.

A truck accident attorney can review medical bills, wage records, and insurance correspondence. Legal guidance can help explain what types of compensation may be available and how Illinois laws apply to a specific situation.
