For another year, he took to the path around Chicago’s lakefront with family by his side on June 1 for a light stroll with others who’ve been through a similar struggle.

Of course, every journey is different, with each arriving at the Northwestern/Lurie Cancer Survivor’s Walk with their own story of perseverance through the illness.
Attorney Jeff Lust is among those, walking down the path with other survivors with his family by his side, remembering his battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2018 and 2019.
It’s one that happened when he was practicing law in New Orleans, the diagnosis being caught on a routine exam that exposed something wrong near his spine. When the cancer was discovered, Jeff began months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, coping with it in his own unique way.
“I was always cracking jokes the whole time,” said Lust, who kept his spirits high even through the rough time of the treatments.
But despite the hardship, they did work, and Jeff would eventually return to his hometown of Chicago to continue his practice. Now cancer-free, he continues to join his family for this once a year to walk along the lakefront with others who’ve survived a similar foe with an appreciation for life and good fortune.
You can listen to Jeff talk about his story of beating cancer, from diagnosis to his return home, in the video.
