How a Young Ankin Law Lawyer Felt at Her First Trial

One of the biggest milestones for a lawyer is standing in front of a judge in a courtroom for the first time.

This is something that one of Ankin Law newest workers’ compensation attorneys did early in 2025.

Sarah Kirschner, who passed the bar exam in the fall of 2024, served as co-counsel for Attorney Scott Goldstein to help an injured worker in February. The insurance company was trying to deny our client coverage for a surgery, so Sarah and Scott went to court to fight for his rights.

“It was nerve-wracking,” said Kirschner of going in front of the judge as an attorney for the first time. “I was just happy to be able to sit there and let him (the client) know we’re doing our best to make sure that he gets the treatment that he needs.”

Over the past few months, Sarah has been working with Scott as she continues to develop her skills in the workers’ compensation field. Going to court is another major step in her development, and already Sarah is excited to represent a client in front of a judge again.

“I think it was great preparation and a great learning experience,” said Kirschner. “Now I know a little bit more about how I can prepare for the next one.”
