Motorcycle Accidents in Illinois

Motorcycle accidents in Illinois are often severe and can have tragic consequences, as seen in this recent crash. Motorcyclists face greater risks than other drivers because they lack the protection of a vehicle’s frame, airbags, or seatbelts. Even a low-speed collision can lead to devastating injuries or death.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, hundreds of motorcycle crashes occur in the state each year, and many are caused by distracted or careless drivers. Rear-end collisions are particularly common when motorists fail to slow down or notice a turning motorcycle. These crashes often happen in rural areas, where long stretches of open road may cause drivers to overlook slower-moving vehicles.

Some of the most common causes of motorcycle accidents include drivers following too closely, distracted driving, unsafe lane changes, and poor visibility during evening hours. Unfortunately, even a brief moment of inattention can have fatal consequences for motorcyclists.

When an accident results in death, victims and their families may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and funeral costs through a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death attorney can help families find closure and ensure accountability for negligent drivers.
