Galatia, IL – Deadly Vehicle Collision on IL Rte 34 at Harco Rd Under Inquiry

Galatia, IL (August 9, 2025) – Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, August 8, near Galatia, Illinois.

According to ISP Troop 10, officers responded to the scene on Illinois Route 34, about one mile west of Harco Road, at approximately 1:58 a.m. Authorities say one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others sustained injuries serious enough to require air transport to a regional hospital. The collision forced the closure of all lanes on Illinois Route 34 until around 7:20 a.m., when traffic was reopened.

During the emergency response, police reported a secondary crash in which another vehicle struck an ISP squad car. It is not yet clear whether any injuries resulted from that incident. State police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both crashes.
