Who Can Be Held Liable After a Car Crashes Into a Store in Shorewood, IL?
When a driver reverses into a storefront and injures a worker inside, liability can extend in several directions. In Illinois, a person hurt due to a driver’s negligence may have the right to seek compensation through a personal injury claim. That includes employees injured on the job by a third party, which means a workers’ compensation claim and a civil claim against the driver may both be available at the same time.
Shorewood sits in Will County, where commercial corridors see consistent retail traffic throughout the day. Storefront crashes in busy commercial strips are not uncommon, and workers inside these businesses are particularly vulnerable when a vehicle loses control or a driver makes an error. Injuries from this type of crash can include broken bones, lacerations, crush injuries, and head trauma, some of which may not be fully apparent in the hours immediately following the wreck.
A personal injury lawyer can help an injured worker understand how Illinois law treats third-party claims alongside workers’ compensation, and what types of damages may be available. Legal guidance can clarify whether the driver’s liability insurance, the business owner’s coverage, or another source of compensation may apply to the specific details of a case.
