Dixon, IL (August 21, 2024) – Two people were injured in a head-on collision outside of Dixon, and one of them had to be pulled from a burning vehicle, according to a news release from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call about two vehicles involved in a head-on collision in the area of Illinois Route 2 and Sink Hollow Road, just outside of Dixon at about 6:20 p.m. Deputies conducted an investigation and learned that a 2017 BMW was driving eastbound on Illinois Route 2 away from Dixon. Meanwhile, another person was traveling westbound on Illinois Route 2 towards Dixon in a 2013 Ford Expedition when the two vehicles collided.
Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles. Bystanders removed the driver of the Ford Expedition because it was on fire after the crash. Both drivers were taken to KSB Hospital for their injuries, while the motorist in the Ford was ultimately airlifted to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is under investigation. The Dixon Police Department, the Dixon Rural Fire Department, the Dixon City Fire Department, and Advance EMS Ambulance Services assisted at the scene in the interim.
