Countryside, IL – Fatal Car Accident Closes I-55 near I-294

Countryside, IL (January 26, 2025) – Illinois State Police (ISP) troopers said that a deadly car crash on Interstate 55 in the southwest suburbs early Sunday morning, January 26, shut down the southbound lanes for multiple hours.

Two cars got into a frontal collision.

Troopers responded to the scene at Interstate 55 near Interstate 294 in Cook County a little after 3:00 a.m., according to the Illinois State Police.  State police did not identify or give any information about the person who was killed in the crash. It was also unclear what caused the crash or if there were any other injuries. Though the ISP has not released any other details about the crash, an inquiry is still ongoing.
