Hit and Run Accidents in Chicago

Hit and run accidents are unfortunately common in large cities like Chicago, often leaving victims severely injured with little to no accountability. These types of incidents can be especially traumatic because the driver responsible flees the scene, leaving victims without help or answers.

Victims of hit and run accidents often face:

  • Long-term physical injuries such as broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, or spinal cord damage. These injuries may require extensive surgeries, physical therapy, and ongoing medical care, often changing a person’s life forever.
  • Emotional trauma and anxiety, which are common after being struck and left behind without help. Many victims suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, or fear of going near roadways again. The feeling of being abandoned in a moment of need can have lasting mental health effects.
  • Significant financial burdens, including emergency room costs, hospital stays, lost income from time away from work, and the expense of long-term rehabilitation. These costs add up quickly, especially when the at-fault driver is never located and held accountable.

In Illinois, leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries is a felony offense. Despite this, many drivers panic and flee, which delays emergency care for victims.

When the driver is not found, victims may still be able to recover damages through uninsured motorist coverage. A seasoned hit-and-run attorney can help track down surveillance footage, locate witnesses, and work with law enforcement to build a case.
