Chicago, IL – Serious Hit-and-Run Injury Crash at Oakley Blvd & Madison St After Police Stop Attempt

Chicago, IL (February 17, 2026) – Two people were taken into custody after a crash left a 57-year-old man seriously hurt on Chicago’s Near West Side. The incident began around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, February 16, when Cicero police attempted a traffic stop in the 4900 block of West 26th Street due to tinted windows.

Serious Hit-and-Run Injury Crash at Oakley Blvd & Madison St After Police Stop Attempt

The vehicle initially pulled over but then drove away. Officers did not chase the car and instead used a tracking device to monitor its location.

Around 3:40 p.m., Chicago police located the vehicle near Oakley Boulevard and Madison Street and attempted another stop. Authorities said a blue Hyundai Genesis sedan was traveling west on Madison Street when it struck a black pickup truck heading north on Oakley Avenue.

The impact pushed the sedan into the wall of a nearby apartment building, while the truck went through a fence surrounding a vacant lot.

The two people inside the sedan got out and ran from the scene after the crash. Officers later took both into custody. Police identified one of them as a known gang member, while information about the second person was not released.

The 57-year-old man driving the pickup truck suffered serious injuries and was taken to Stroger Hospital with body trauma.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured man as he receives treatment and begins his recovery.

What to Do If the At-Fault Driver Flees the Scene in Chicago

If the at-fault driver leaves the scene in Chicago, the first step is to call 911 and request medical help if anyone is hurt. A police report should be filed right away, even if injuries seem minor. Officers can document the crash, gather witness statements, and check for nearby surveillance footage, which may help identify the driver.

Hit-and-run accidents remain a serious issue in large cities. Heavy traffic, multiple intersections, and dense neighborhoods can make it easier for a driver to disappear quickly. Even so, victims still have options. Uninsured motorist coverage through an auto insurance policy may apply when the responsible driver cannot be located.

Injuries after this type of collision can range from broken bones and head trauma to neck and back strain. Some people notice pain hours later, especially after the initial shock fades. Seeking prompt medical attention not only supports recovery but also creates records that may become important during an insurance claim.

Legal guidance can help clarify next steps after a hit-and-run crash. A Chicago personal injury attorney can review the police report, examine insurance policies, and explain what types of compensation may be available.
