Chicago, IL (July 27, 2025) – All southbound lanes of Interstate 57 have reopened after a deadly crash on Sunday, July 27, police said.

The crash happened at about 4:07 a.m. north of Vollmer Road near Country Club Hills, according to police. Illinois State Police troopers said the crash happened, and one of the occupants got out of their car before being struck by a passing vehicle.
One person died and another was taken to an area hospital. The medical examiner identified the man who died as Riley Vercher, 25, of Park Forest. However, no other details were released; updates on any injured victims’ current conditions were not provided, but an investigation remains ongoing at this time.
