Chicago, IL – Man Dead in Pedestrian Collision on I-290 near 9th Ave

Chicago, IL (October 14, 2024) – According to troopers with the Illinois State Police (ISP) and local officers, the inbound and outbound lanes on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) were closed early Monday morning, October 14.

Heavy delays were reported after a pedestrian on the roadway was struck and killed overnight, the ISP confirmed. The crash, which involved an SUV and a pedestrian, took place around 4:20 a.m. Per the ISP, the pedestrian, an adult male, was struck and killed near the outbound lanes.

As of 5:00 a.m., ISP said traffic was being diverted in both directions. In the outbound lanes, traffic was diverted at 9th Avenue, ISP said, with traffic in the inbound lanes diverted at 25th Avenue. However, no further details were released, and the deceased victim was not identified. It’s unclear if citations are pending, but an inquiry into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.
