Chicago, IL (December 14, 2024) – According to troopers with the Illinois State Police (ISP) and local officers, an IDOT minuteman was struck by a driver while on the job on the city’s South Side on Saturday, December 14.

The crash happened at about 3:10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-94 near 26th Street, ISP said. The IDOT minuteman truck was parked as crews worked on multiple crashes that happened in the area.
As the emergency lights were on, a car crashed into the IDOT truck from behind, after the man had apparently exited his vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was cited for driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. No further information has been provided at this time, adn the victim’s current condition is unknown, but an inquiry into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.
