Chicago, IL (December 9, 2024) – According to troopers with the Illinois State Police (ISP) and local officers, I-57 southbound near Mattoon was closed due to a collision that involved a fatality.

The road closures began around milepost 187, and ISP added that traffic from I-57 south was to be diverted at milepost 190 onto U.S. 45. Authorities confirmed that one person, allegedly a pedestrian, was killed in the incident. That said, no further information has been provided at this time.
