Chicago, IL (December 27, 2024) – According to area officials, two semi-tractor trailers collided in Kankakee County on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a truck driver and the severe injury of a child.

Per troopers with the Illinois State Police, a truck driver lost control of a semi while traveling on Illinois Route 17 near Bull Creek Road shortly after 7:00 a.m. and collided head-on with another semi. The collision caused at least one of the vehicles to overturn.
At the site, one driver was declared deceased. A infant who was a passenger in one of the trucks was transported to the hospital in a critical condition. The condition of the second driver was unavailable.
However, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, and witnesses who had additional information about the incident were asked to contact officers right away.
