Chicago, IL (September 11, 2024) – Local authorities confirmed a fatal crash occurred over the weekend, per Illinois State Police troopers who are still investigating the incident.
The crash took place on Interstate 55 southbound under Interstate 94 near Chinatown early on the morning of Sunday, September 8, prompting the closure of all southbound lanes. As a result of the crash, I-55 southbound traffic was being diverted off at MLK Drive.
At least one person was pronounced dead at the scene, but no further information about the crash or the number of victims involved has been released at this time.
