Aurora, IL (July 1, 2024) – According to troopers with the Illinois State Police who responded to the incident, several lanes were closed on Interstate 88 in Chicago’s west suburbs on Monday, July 1, after a semi-truck and trailer crashed and caught fire.
State troopers responded about noon to westbound I-88 at Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora for a reported crash between the truck and another vehicle, police said. It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, but police informed the truck caught fire.
Injuries were also reported, state police added. All westbound lanes were closed, and one eastbound lane was closed, causing a traffic backup. Around 12:30 p.m., the fire appeared to be out, but crews remained on the scene cleaning up the debris. Officials urged drivers to avoid the area, though witnesses who had additional information about the incident were asked to contact officers right away. However, the crash is still being investigated, and no additional details have been provided so far.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time.
Truck Accidents in Illinois
Trucking companies and their insurers exist to provide support to their respective industries and are not looking out for victims’ best interests following a crash. They are responsible for persuading plaintiffs to settle for the bare minimum or, in certain instances, for nothing. Victims of truck accidents should have an advocate, and an Illinois truck accident attorney knows what it takes to fight these claims. Moreover, the driver is not always liable when a truck crash occurs; their employer, the maintenance fleet, or even the truck manufacturer may also be to blame. Fault can be difficult to determine in these incidents, so consulting an attorney is essential.
Determining the cause is the initial stage in identifying potential faults involving multiple parties. Unfortunately, truck collision victims often sustain catastrophic, life-altering injuries and do not have the time to deal with a personal injury case on their own. When extended periods of recovery are factored in, truck accident victims typically face serious financial adversity following such an incident. By retaining the services of an Aurora truck accident attorney to hold any negligent party accountable, you can recover the damages you’ve suffered as a result of an 18-wheeler crash and avoid further hardship.
