Going ‘Nuts’ For Chicago: The story of “Nuts on Clark”

What started as a simple idea in a small shop down the street from an iconic sports venue has now become a four-decade Chicago institution.

“Nuts on Clark” has a great reputation in the city for quality nuts, popcorn and candy. It’s a creation of the Kenney family – native Chicagoans who had the idea for a snack shop which they made a reality in 1979.

That’s when Estelle and Herbert Kenney opened “Nuts on Clark” in a building a few blocks north of Wrigley Field. Their children, Carla and Robert, immediately pitched in to get their nuts and popcorn a footing in the Chicago area.

High quality and hard work, along with a little help from a few fans in the Cubs’ WGN broadcast booth eventually pushed the “Nuts on Clark” outside of Lakeview. The shop expanded beyond their Lakeview store to both Chicago airports, Wrigley Field, Soldier Field, and now American Airlines planes.

A third generation of Kenneys – Carly and Zach – now look to expand the national reach of the brand in the coming years.
