What Should Drivers Do After a Hit-and-Run on Lake Shore Dr in Chicago, IL?
Drivers involved in a hit-and-run should call police right away, seek a medical evaluation, and file a report, since this documentation is usually needed to pursue an uninsured motorist claim.
Occupants in a chain-reaction wreck like this one frequently deal with delayed pain such as whiplash or soft-tissue injuries that aren’t obvious right after impact. Medical bills can add up quickly, especially when the driver responsible can’t be located right away.
Because the driver who caused this accident left before being identified, recovering costs directly from that driver may not be possible. In these situations, a Chicago car accident attorney can help injured people pursue compensation through their own uninsured motorist coverage, which Illinois law permits when a hit-and-run driver cannot be found.
Under Illinois’ modified comparative negligence rule, a person’s compensation can also be reduced if they are found more than 50 percent at fault, which makes legal guidance useful when fault is contested among multiple vehicles.
