Chicago, IL – Multi-Vehicle Crash Near 115th St & Throop St Leaves Five Injured

Chicago, IL (March 14, 2026) – Five people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Friday, March 13, near the intersection of 115th Street and Throop Street on Chicago’s Far South Side.

Police reported that the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. when a tow truck traveling westbound struck a Chevrolet in the roadway. After the initial contact, the tow truck continued forward and hit a Chicago Transit Authority bus. The impact pushed the bus into a parked Toyota nearby, resulting in a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash at the intersection.

Emergency crews arrived quickly to secure the scene. Paramedics evaluated the injured before transporting five people to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

Officials confirmed that two of the injured victims were teenagers. Authorities have not released their identities or shared details about the severity of their injuries.

Police officers documented the scene and gathered evidence to determine what led to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Our hearts go out to those injured, and we wish them a full and steady recovery.

How Is Fault Determined in a Multi-Vehicle Accident in Chicago?

Police reports are one of the main ways to do this. They can help determine fault in a multi-vehicle accident in Chicago. During their investigation, officers document vehicle positions, driver statements, and roadway conditions. This details helps investigators reconstruct how the crash began.

Witness statements can also provide useful details during the review process. People nearby may have seen how vehicles were moving just before the crash occurred. Their observations sometimes clarify which driver’s actions started the chain reaction.

Vehicle damage patterns also help investigators understand how the collision unfolded. Investigators examine dents, debris patterns, and the final position of each vehicle. These details help explain how the crash moved from one vehicle to another.

Traffic cameras and nearby security systems may provide additional evidence. Video footage sometimes captures the moment one vehicle strikes another or enters traffic unexpectedly. This footage can help investigators confirm the order of events.
