Some Quick Advice from A Chicago ‘Teacher of The Month’

A Chicago teacher who received a major award from Ankin Law and WGN-TV is always willing to give some advice to her students.

But Mrs. Mary Erdmann of Brother Rice High School is also willing to do the same for her community.

After the special education instructor was given the “Teacher of the Month Award” from the law firm and Chicago television station in February, she was asked a tip she’d give to students.

Erdmann’s answer was quick but effective.

“Be your authentic self,” said Erdmann when asked about a piece of advice she would offer to those in school in the Chicagoland area.

She is sixth educator in Chicagoland to be awarded the “Teacher of the Month” award so far in the 2025-2026 academic year. Attorney Phil Risley had the honor of presenting Erdmann with a donation to Brother Rice High School on February 17.
