Why Are These Ingredients Dangerous?

Products with undeclared ingredients are often dangerous due to many factors, including adverse health reactions, allergic reactions, and reactions with other drugs. Companies owe a duty of care to consumers to provide a full list of ingredients, no matter how small or large the amount may be. Dangerous ingredients in the Modern Warrior Ready Supplement recall include:

  • Tianeptine
  • 1,4-DMAA
  • aniracetam

What Is Tianeptine?

Tianeptine is a chemical compound used as a prescription antidepressant in some parts of the world. In the United States, however, it has not been approved for any medical use whatsoever. This unregulated substance is often sold illegally in gas stations and online as dietary supplements or brain boosters, due to the fact that at high doses, it mimics opioid effects.

Tianeptine can cause life-threatening events and risks including suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children, teens, and young adults age 25 and under. Additionally, accidental overdose of this compound can lead to confusion, seizures, dry mouth, and shortness of breath, which can be exacerbated by alcohol use.

Using Tianeptine alongside monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressants can lead to life-threatening complications such as death or stroke.

What Is 1,4-DMAA?

1,4-DMAA, also known as 1,4-dimethylpentylamine or 5-methylhexan-2-amine, is a synthetic stimulant and sympathomimetic identified in some dietary supplements that are often marketed for weight loss and athletic performance. It is related to 1,3-DMAA, also known as methylhexanamine. It mimics the effects of neurotransmitters like epinephrine and norepinephrine in the body. It is not approved for use in the United States due to its possible health risks.

Health risks of 1,4-DMAA use include increased heart rate, high blood pressure, shortness of breath, and the potential for serious cardiac events like heart attacks. This is especially true when this stimulant is paired with other stimulants like caffeine.

What Is Aniracetam?

Aniracetam is a synthetic nootropic drug that may enhance brain functions. It is a prescription medication in Japan and some European countries that is used to treat cognitive and emotional disturbances often associated with brain disorders like stroke or dementia. However, this drug is not approved in the United States for use as a prescription medication or dietary supplement.

Aniracetam is multifaceted, and is not fully understood. However, it is known to react with several brain systems, such as the glutamatergic system, the cholinergic system, and the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems.

Side effects of aniracetam include insomnia, anxiety, unrest, headache, vertigo, stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea. It also has the potential to react with other prescription medications, which could lead to adverse health events.

What Should I Do With the Recalled Modern Warrior Supplements?

Modern Warrior has ceased sale and distribution of the product, and quarantined the rest to avoid future sales and distribution.

FAQs About Recalled Supplements

Can I Still File a Lawsuit if There’s a Recall?

You can still file a lawsuit if there is a recall. You must be able to prove that you were using the product as directed and suffered illness or injury as a result. Issuing a recall does not absolve a company of responsibility, and a recall can serve as evidence of the product’s defect.
