Chicago, IL (September 18, 2024) – A 9-year-old boy, identified as Anakin Perez, tragically lost his life after being struck by a car near Ronald E McNair Elementary School on Thursday morning, September 18.

The incident occurred at about 7:41 a.m. in the 4800-block of West Walton Street. A woman driving a light-colored Chevy sedan was traveling westbound when the vehicle struck the boy, who was in the street.

Anakin was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses reported that the driver initially fled the scene but returned to cooperate with authorities. First responders arrived quickly, and witnesses provided immediate help until paramedics arrived.
