Pedestrian Accidents in Chicago

Chicago sees thousands of pedestrians moving through its neighborhoods every day. Unfortunately, accidents involving walkers and drivers remain a serious safety concern across the city.

When a person on foot is struck by a vehicle, the outcome is often severe. Injuries can range from broken bones to life-threatening trauma, as pedestrians have little protection against the impact of a car or truck.

The Illinois Department of Transportation reports that pedestrian crashes are more common in urban areas like Chicago, especially during nighttime or early morning hours. Many of these collisions happen in areas without proper lighting or where drivers fail to yield. Alcohol, speeding, and distracted driving also play a major role in these tragedies.

For injured pedestrians, recovery can take months or even years. Hospital bills, lost income, and long-term therapy can put an enormous strain on victims and their families.

That is why legal guidance is often critical. An experienced pedestrian accidents lawyer in Chicago can help victims pursue compensation for medical costs, pain and suffering, and future care needs.

Some of the damages a lawyer may pursue include:

  • Medical bills for emergency treatment, surgery, and rehabilitation
  • Lost wages and loss of future earning ability
  • Pain and emotional suffering
  • Long-term medical needs or home care support

If a crash involves reckless driving or criminal charges, the case may also include claims for punitive damages. Each situation is unique, and speaking with a lawyer helps victims understand the best course of action.
