Pedestrian Accidents Involving Trains in Illinois
When a tragic pedestrian accident leads to the loss of a loved one, surviving family members may be entitled to compensation through a wrongful death claim. While no amount of money can replace the loss of a loved one, compensation can help cover the financial burdens and emotional toll left behind.
Here are some common types of compensation available in wrongful death cases:
- Medical expenses – Compensation can cover the costs of emergency medical treatment, hospital stays, surgeries, and any other medical care provided before the victim’s passing.
- Funeral and burial expenses – Families can recover costs associated with funeral services, burial, and other end-of-life expenses, easing the financial burden during an already difficult time.
- Lost wages – If the deceased was the primary wage-earner in the family, surviving family members may be entitled to compensation for the lost income and support they would have received.
- Loss of companionship – Compensation can be awarded for the emotional distress and loss of companionship suffered by family members. This acknowledges the pain of losing a loved one and the lasting impact on family dynamics.
- Pain and suffering – If the victim experienced physical or emotional pain before their death, their family may receive compensation for the suffering endured.
- Loss of services and support – If the deceased provided caregiving, household maintenance, or other services, the family may be compensated for the loss of these vital contributions to their lives.
Filing a wrongful death claim can help families obtain the financial support they need while navigating the grieving process. Consulting with an experienced wrongful death attorney ensures that families understand their rights and pursue the full compensation they deserve.
