Car Accidents in Illinois

Illinois crash data reveal that nearly one in five roadway accidents involves three or more vehicles—a scenario that frequently leads to severe, sometimes life-altering injuries. Many of these pileups trace back to familiar, preventable hazards:

Tailgating: Driving too close leaves no margin for error. When the car ahead brakes suddenly, a chain-reaction collision can unfold in seconds.

Unsafe Lane Changes: Abruptly weaving through traffic or neglecting blind spots—especially on fast-moving arteries such as Lake Shore Drive—can trigger multi-car pileups.

Distracted Driving: Texting, fiddling with the radio, or any task that diverts attention from the road delays reaction time and raises the odds of a multi-vehicle crash.

Adverse Weather: Rain, snow, and ice reduce traction and visibility, turning minor mistakes into major collisions involving several vehicles.
