Chicago, IL – Two Hurt, One Critically, in Hit-and-Run Crash on Irving Park Rd

Chicago, IL (April 27, 2026) – Two people were hurt, one critically, after a crash on the Northwest Side early Monday morning, April 27. The accident happened just after 3 a.m. in the 3300 block of West Irving Park Road.

Two Hurt, One Critically, in Hit-and-Run Crash on Irving Park Rd

A light-colored Kia sedan, driven by a 34-year-old woman with multiple passengers, was heading westbound on Irving Park Road when it attempted to overtake the right lane. The Kia struck a light-colored Volkswagen sedan traveling in the same direction. The Kia then hit a nearby tree, while the Volkswagen crashed into a residential building.

The driver of the Volkswagen fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction after the collision. Police have not identified or located that driver.

The Kia’s driver suffered trauma to her body and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. A 38-year-old male passenger sustained cuts and was also taken to the hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Two other male passengers, a 26-year-old and another man, refused medical treatment at the scene.

No citations have been issued. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Our thoughts remain with those hurt in this accident, especially the driver listed in critical condition, and we hope for her full and speedy recovery.

How Can a Police Report Help a Car Accident Claim in Illinois?

A police report can play an important role in a car accident claim in Illinois. It creates an official record of the crash, documenting key details that may be difficult to reconstruct later — including the date, time, location, involved parties, and a preliminary assessment of what happened.

Police reports often include statements from drivers, passengers, and witnesses. They may also note visible vehicle damage, road conditions, and whether any traffic laws appeared to have been broken. In hit-and-run situations like this one, the report documents the fact that a driver fled, which can be relevant when filing a claim under uninsured motorist coverage in Illinois.

Insurance companies typically request a copy of the police report early in the claims process. Adjusters use it to evaluate the circumstances of the collision and determine how liability may apply. While a police report is not the final word on fault, it carries weight and can help support a person’s account of what happened during the accident.

People hurt in a crash may also benefit from combining the police report with medical records, photos, and witness information. Together, this documentation helps build a clearer picture of the incident. A Chicago car accident lawyer can review all available records and explain what types of compensation may be available based on the specific details of the case.
