Shane McDonough

Workers’ Compensation

Shane McDonough was born and raised in Bergen County, New Jersey, in a suburb of New York City. Shane attended college at the University of Dayton, where he started as a Biology/Pre-Medicine Major with hopes of going to medical school. While in college, Shane took a wrongful convictions course and got involved with the Ohio Innocence Project. When exonerees came to UD’s campus as guest lecturers, Shane served as a liaison and introduced them to campus. These experiences piqued his interest in pursuing a career in law. Shane switched his major to english literature, and he worked with a department chair at UD to create a new minor degree, race and social justice. While he always strived to leave a lasting impact on UD, he realized the lack of minors in the liberal arts curriculum begged for the addition of new areas of study. Shane was the first student in UD’s rich 175-year history to graduate with a minor in race and social justice.

After earning his undergraduate degree, Shane continued his graduate education at the University of Dayton School of Law. While attending UDSL, Shane was granted the opportunity to work and learn directly from the general counsel of a multi-million dollar non-profit organization, the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), he also interned at a firm focusing on elder law, and externed at a family law firm in Dayton, Ohio.

Upon graduation, Shane clerked for the Honorable Lina P. Corriston, in New Jersey, where he was certain that he wanted to pursue a career in litigation. Shane then moved to Chicago and worked at a personal injury firm where he was a key player in working closely with clients and their families to secure settlements on their behalf.

At Ankin Law, Shane is a workers’ compensation attorney. He strives to create fairness and a level playing field for clients with claims against insurance companies and their employers.

In his free time, Shane enjoys going to concerts, spending quality time with his dog, cooling off in Lake Michigan on a hot day, and he is always on the search for good deep-dish pizza.
