Target Recalls 264,000 Bunny Sippy Cups

Written by Ankin Law Office

Target Corp. recalled about 264,000 of its Home Bunny Sippy Cups on April 26, 2012, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The toddler training cups, which were shaped like a bunny, were pulled from store shelves after Target received complaints that the cups’ protruding ears can poke a child in the eye area during use.

The CPSC says that Target Corp. of Minneapolis, Minn. has received six reports of the Target Home Bunny Sippy Cups injuring children during ordinary use, half of which involved reports of cuts and bruises.

The recalled bunny cups were sold at Target stores nationwide from February to April 2012 for about $3 each.  The recall involves two styles of Target Home Bunny Sippy Cups. Both styles come with handles on both sides in pink and blue, female and male. Each contains a corresponding white bunny head screw-on lid and one bent ear and one straight ear. The cups can be identified by imprints on the bottom: “TARGET 200020683” for pink and “TARGET 200020884” for the blue.

Consumers should immediately discontinue use of the bunny cups and return the Target Home Bunny Sippy Cups for to a Target store for a full refund. For more information, customers can call Target toll-free (844) 600-0000 or visit the company’s website:

Issues of liability for defective children’s product liability lawsuit are complex and require a detailed factual and legal analysis.  Under a theory of strict liability, a manufacturer may be liable for any injuries caused by a defective toy or children’s product that the manufacturer made, even if it did not act negligently.  Retailers and others who put the defective product into commerce may also be liable for any injuries if the retailer knew or reasonably should have known of that the product was defective or dangerous and it failed to meet its obligation to protect consumers.
