Symptoms of Cyclospora Infection

Cyclospora is a parasite that causes an intestinal illness called cyclosporiasis. Symptoms often begin about one week after exposure but may appear anywhere from two days to two weeks or more afterward.

Common symptoms include:

Frequent, watery diarrhea
Stomach pain or cramping
Nausea and bloating
Loss of appetite
Weight loss
Fatigue
Fever or body aches

Without treatment, symptoms may continue for weeks or longer. Severe diarrhea can cause dehydration and may require hospitalization. Routine stool tests do not always screen for Cyclospora, so patients may need to request specific testing.
